What it is: Over the course of my final spring semester at Biola University, I led a team in designing two stickers to raise money for a non-profit organization called Special Olympics. By partnering with GenGen (a Biola non-profit startup), we were able to raise over $5,500 during the course of 7 days to financially assist future events for athletes with special needs.
What I learned: Effective leadership skills in addition to oral/written communications. I grew in my understanding of the background services needed to run a startup as well as the approval process for designing/launching a marketing plan. Most importantly, I learned how to respect and encourage those with special needs and how to share that, “We are more alike than we are different”!
What I would have done differently: If we had more time working with Special Olympics, I would have liked to be volunteer for an in-person athletic event (however, due to COVID-19, this was not feasible at the time).
